Something that I am really into right now and am absolutely astonished at how well it works, is a coconut oil and baking soda scrub. I was messing around online and found some list of things you can do with coconut oil and the scrub jumped out at me.
I thought… put oil on my skin? Uh… I have always had breakout-prone skin. I have tried every product on the market, I tried Accutane, nothing really worked. I don’t know if it’s because I’m taking a lot of supplements (started 6 months ago) and the associated detox has sent my skin back into full teenager mode, but I’ve been feeling pretty sad lately. Since I tried this coconut oil scrub, my skin has nearly cleared up. Plus, it’s soft. I have even started putting it on my entire body after the shower. I smell good, and I am silky.
1) Extra virgin coconut oil (I got mine at the local health food store… I think $20-ish)
2) Baking soda
You need a dollop of oil (it’s solid) about the size of a quarter (that may be overkill, but I was once told that everything you do to your face, do to your throat) and about half that amount of baking soda. Mix it together and scrub it on your face. Be careful around the eye area (avoid those delicate tissues) and in the crease of your nose. Once you’re done, simply rinse with water to remove the baking soda. You can leave the oil on your face.
I recommend doing this at night, but I have done it in the morning. Give your skin enough time to absorb the oil so you can put on your makeup without issue – may be different for those who use a wet makeup, but I use mineral powder.
Edited to add – Just watched Dr Oz on my PVR and he had a lady on who gave the following recipe that I am going to have to try:
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp chia seeds
Leave it on for two minutes and take it off with a wet cloth.
